Charming Dwarf priest
I am Beardknob Knobbybeard, Priest of the Miner's Creed. I seek the Legendary
Dagger
Dagger of Minos. I open the door to the dungeon...
Corridor straight ahead.
A corridor straight forward, seems simple enough.
Corridor turns left 45 degrees.
A left turn, and then..
Corridor turns left 90 degrees.
A sharper left turn.
Dead end.
I must've missed something. I double back and realize that this dungeon was a false trail. I depart, and scrounge for other entrances. A full day of exploration later, I discover another door in the ground, and open it...
Corridor straight ahead.
Another straight-ahead corridor.
Corridor emerges into chamber no door.
A chamber!
Rectangle 25 to 40 ft.
Rectangular, 25 by 40 feet. I check for exits.
-2 = -1 +0 -1 +0
I sit down in frustration. Another dead end...I return, disheartened, to the surface, and keep looking. I WILL FIND THIS DAGGER! The next day, I find yet another door in the ground.
Corridor turns right.
Continues straight.
Continues straight.
Continues straight.
Further down the hall, I halt to get my bearings and check to see where the hallway goes now...
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
Stairs, on the left! I decide not to go down them just yet, and I proceed down the corridor.
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
More stairs. I keep going.
Stairs on right side Corridor continues.
I proceed past a third set of stairs.
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
And a fourth...
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
And a fifth...
Door on left side corridor continues.
A door, which I open.
Corridor turns right.
I decide not to go through it yet.
Continues straight.
Continues straight.
Continues straight.
Corridor emerges into chamber no door.
A chamber! I explore it.
Cavern medium roughly 30 to 40 ft across.

Giant vermin
A huge ratman hisses and chitters, emerging from the darkness at the other end of the cavern!

The rat charges before I'm ready, swinging an improvised knife!

The knife is clumsily aimed and skitters off my miner's helmet, and I retaliate with a jab of my own blade.

The rat dodges and then lunges to bite...

..and fails to get a grip on my leather gloves. I take this opportunity to attempt to punch it in the face...
2 = +0 +1 +1 +0
...and succeed, smashing my heavy fist into its teeth, knocking one of its over-sized incisors out of its mouth. It squeaks in fury and whips its thick tail at my legs...

I'm bruised, but not much beyond that. I lash out again with my knife...
0 = -1 +1 -1 +1
...and nick the beast's ear. It tries to tackle me...

...but I jump clear, stomping down on its back...

...my reinforced boot driving it face-first into the stone floor underfoot. It struggles.

It manages to bruise me again with its wildly flailing tail...
1 = +1 +1 -1 +0
...but I stab into its back quickly...In its death throes...
2 = -1 +1 +1 +1
...it manages to rip its filthy claws through my arm, lacerating it. I snarl in pain and anger and move to finish it off...

..but it uses its tail to knock my aim off.

Its next thrash is ineffective. Time to end this.

I thrust into the back of its neck and it dies with a shudder. I check the body for loot...

It has two gold coins! I pocket them with a satisfied smirk, heading off into the tunnel I entered the cavern through and entering the door I passed earlier, moving into the side corridor beyond.
Continues straight.
Corridor turns left 90 degrees.
I turn the corner to see...
Stairs on right side Corridor continues.
A set of stairs off to the side, which I ignore in favor of moving down the corridor.
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
More stairs, but I again ignore them.
Corridor splits at a Y.
I turn right.
Four-way intersection.
I head right again.
Corridor dead-ends at a door.
A door, which I open..
Parallel corridor extending in each direction.
I turn back and head to the northern end of the four-way intersection.
Corridor comes to a T.
A T-joint. I head left.
Corridor emerges into chamber no door.
I examine the chamber/
Rectangle 30 to 50 ft.
It's rectangular.

The room is empty, I check for other exits.

Only the one I came through, I double back and head straight across the T-joint.
Corridor comes to a T.
I head north...
Side passage on left corridor continues.
I keep moving down this main hallway.
Corridor dead-ends at a door.
A door. I open it without hesitating.
Corridor straight ahead.
More corridor goodness.
Four-way intersection.
I head straight across.
Stairs on left side Corridor continues.
Stairs, which I ignore.
Attacked by NPC.
Ambush!
Extravagant shipwright
By a large man carrying a boarding hook...

I move to attack!

I manage to catch him off guard before he can raise the heavy pike-like weapon to defend himself.

...but his leather apron deflects my attack, and he swings the boarding pike around...

...I duck it thanks to the short stature inherent to my race, and I leap in to strike at him.
0 = -1 -1 +1 +1
...I fail to land a blow...
0 = -1 +0 +1 +0
...as he fails to hit me.

2 = +1 +1 +0 +0

I strike him a worthy blow, and he growls at me, swinging the hook again.

0 = -1 +1 -1 +1

...and I deflect the heavy blow, barely, then thrust in at his chest.

-4 = -1 -1 -1 -1

...and again I don't penetrate his leather apron.

2 = +1 +0 +0 +1

His pike hits me but glances off my arm, making it go numb and possibly bruising it...

-3 = +0 -1 -1 -1

My retaliation is ineffective.

1 = +0 -1 +1 +1

On his next swing, I dodge the wicked point of the hook--barely.

2 = +1 +1 +1 -1

I strike him again, stabbing into his shoulder and making him yell, swearing as his blood sprays my clothing.

-1 = -1 -1 +0 +1

He's off-balance and his next swing goes wild.

-2 = +0 -1 +0 -1

...but neither am I able to press home my advantage and kill him outright.

0 = +1 -1 +1 -1

He staggers back, wildly swinging the hook...

2 = +1 +1 +1 -1

I manage to hit him solidly, stabbing his other shoulder now and ripping my dagger free.

0 = -1 +1 +0 +0

He's in too much pain to hurt me, and...

1 = +1 +1 -1 +0

I finish him with a jab to the chest; he falls to the ground, slain. As soon as I'm certain he's dead, I check his body for loot.

2 = -1 +1 +1 +1

2 more gold coins for my pockets. Excellent. I proceed down the corridor confidently.

Four-way intersection.

Another intersection. I head right.

Continues straight.

...further...

Door on right side corridor continues.

A door. I open it.

Corridor straight ahead.

A corridor heading south. I ignore it and proceed east.

Corridor splits at a Y.

I choose the northeast path.

Continues straight.

Stairs on left side Corridor continues.

Proceeding north I find...

Corridor comes to a T.

A t-joint, I head east.

Stairs Corridor ends.

Which ends in stairs, I head west at the T-joint instead...

Continues straight.

Attacked by opposition.

Ambush!

Dragon

A dragon...Oh no....

It's a dragon, a juvenile...I charge!

3 = +1 +1 +1 +0

I caught it off guard, and it whips its head around over its shoulder just as I drive a dagger into it...

-2 = -1 +0 +0 -1

....which glances off its armored hide.

1 = -1 +1 +0 +1

It strikes back with its claws, but I dodge aside, instincts kicking in as I roll under its next swipe, coming up with my dagger held before me.

-3 = -1 +0 -1 -1

Foiled again by its scales...

-1 = +0 -1 -1 +1

It doesn't hurt me, its claws tearing my clothes but doing little else...

3 = +0 +1 +1 +1

and I strike it at a weak point on its underbelly, dagger tearing through reptilian flesh, spraying blue blood out. Screeching, the dragon moves to bite me...

1 = +1 -1 +1 +0

...and I pull my arm back before it can be amputated as the beast intended.

-2 = +0 +0 -1 -1

...my dagger again skitters along its scaly hide...

and its tail swings at me and misses.

I miss with my next attack...

...and the dragon fails to pin me down again.

My dagger chips a scale on its leg, but doesn't penetrate...

-1 = +0 +0 -1 +0

...the dragon kicks out but misses...

0 = +0 +0 -1 +1

...I fail to reach it in time to attack...

-1 = +1 +0 -1 -1

As it breathes a puff of fire, I sidestep the small fireball easily.

-2 = -1 -1 +0 +0

The heat is still too intense to move in and attack, so I have to go on the defensive.

1 = -1 +0 +1 +1

It whips its head around like a flail but I step out of reach.

2 = +1 -1 +1 +1

Finally, I penetrate its hide again and stab it just behind the hole that serves as its ear. It shrugs me off and goes to crush me under its bulk...

1 = -1 +1 +1 +0

...but I roll out of the way just in time.

-3 = +0 -1 -1 -1

My dagger fails to find purchase...

-1 = -1 -1 +0 +1

...and the dragon still fails to pin me down, like a cat that's had too much catnip hunting a mouse.

I can't exploit its clumsiness, but neither can it defeat me yet...

I jump aside before it can crush me against the corridor wall, then lash out with my knife.

-2 = -1 +0 -1 +0

...and again, it skitters off the bony structure of the dragon's smallish wings.

-1 = +1 -1 -1 +0

The dragon mewls and whips its head around again, baring its teeth, but I avoid the bite with ease, sliding behind it and striking down at its back.

-2 = -1 +1 -1 -1

Spiky horns deflect my dagger's blade.

0 = -1 +1 +0 +0

The dragon tries rolling over but I jump off it before I can be flattened beneath its bulk.

0 = +1 +0 +0 -1

I still can't kill the damned thing!

2 = +0 +1 +1 +0

It turns around and slashes with a foreclaw again, this time ripping through my sleeve to open up a bandaged wound from my last fight. Fighting through the pain, I leap forward...

-2 = +0 -1 +0 -1

...but am rebuffed by the dragon's questing claws.

2 = +1 +0 +0 +1

I take another hit from its clublike tail, moving aside just in time to avoid any broken bones.

2 = +0 +0 +1 +1

I manage to nick the dragon again...and it strikes back.

-3 = -1 +0 -1 -1

I dodge the ill-aimed blow easily.

2 = +1 +1 +1 -1

Cutting down, I grit my teeth as my dagger bites deeper into dragonhide, cutting at the vulnerable meat beneath.

-1 = -1 +1 -1 +0

Hissing at me, the dragon struggles. I manage to retain my footing, but I know that I need to end this quickly.

2 = +1 +1 -1 +1

I score its flesh again, slashing into its back.

-1 = -1 +0 +0 +0

It doesn't land its next hit, and I aim for the eye this time.

1 = -1 +1 +1 +0

It blinks just in time for its armored eyelids to deflect my dagger strike.

-1 = -1 +0 +1 -1

Growling, it lashes out with a claw, but I parry it with some effort.

0 = +0 -1 +0 +1

My dagger glances off its snout again.

0 = +0 -1 +0 +1

...but again I dodge it when it tries breathing fire.

1 = +0 +1 -1 +1

Its hide protects it yet again.

-2 = -1 -1 +0 +0

I weave around its flurry of blows.

-2 = +0 -1 -1 +0

...but can't counter.

-1 = +0 -1 +1 -1

It strikes yet again. I dodge, letting it sink its claws into the loam of the tunnel wall.

1 = +1 -1 +1 +0

I can't find a weak spot from my current position, as it rips its claws free and lashes out with its tail.

-3 = -1 -1 -1 +0

I saw that coming and I duck it.

1 = -1 +0 +1 +1

I try to sever its tail but my knife proves woefully inadequate for the task.

2 = +0 +0 +1 +1

It staggers me with another swing of its tail.

3 = +1 +1 +0 +1

...but I thrust with my dagger and sink it into the beast's underbelly as I turn my uncontrolled fall to the ground into a roll.

-2 = -1 -1 -1 +1

It can't pin me down--it can't quite see me, I must be in its blind spot for the moment!

-1 = +0 +0 +0 -1

I can't hit it though, and it turns to face me as I stand up and attacks!

3 = +0 +1 +1 +1

I fall to the ground, knocked out. I awake some time later, bitterly disappointed in myself for failing to perform such a legend-worthy deed as slaying a dragon.
