Every time I post an actual play, I not only want it to entertain, but also to instruct and inform the reader about my process of solo roleplaying. It’s right there in my blog’s tagline. That’s why, for some time now, I’ve been working on plans to be more active in educating others about our hobby. Those plans are finally coming to fruition.

I’m ending this year with a series of articles aimed at helping newer players get started and exposing existing players to game styles with which they may not be familiar. Then, hopefully starting in January, I will begin a video series highlighting several of the great tools that are available to help the community as a whole enrich their games.

The first of these articles, Starting Solo: Finding Your Style, posted earlier this week. If you are interested, you may read it here:

Hey, all. I know I haven't been posting as much this past year. Part of that is due to planning, packing, and making a major move to a different state. The other is, well, my various interests have shifted over the years and I'm not spending as much time on solo tabletop RPGs as in the past. I'm not abandoning the pastime by any means (I'm in the middle of campaign, after all, not to mention the tons of solo games I've collected on itch.io), but I'm just not playing as frequently.

What I have been doing these past few months are several tabletop gaming related crafting projects. I recently featured these projects on my blog. If you're interested it can be read here:

Hey all. Just wanted to pass along a Solo RPG game, "Friends and Fables", I've been helping to alpha (and now beta) test since January of this year. It's loosely 5e D&D based.

It's solo in the sense that the DM is AI powered (currently llama model), whom the devs have affectionately named "Franz". (I have personally started calling calling the game "Friends and Franz").

Here's short youtube video about F&F.

Now, understand that Franz is a little wonky at times and often has memory issues and gets cyclical in some of his thinking. It's also in open beta so things are still being worked on. But honestly, I'm proud of the product and believe it's the best AI game mastered RPG game out there. It's come a huge way in just six months. The devs (all two of them) are very responsive and listen to and readily apply feedback and they're constantly improving the game.

Some things I like about it:

A character sheet with inventory

Combat that follows 5e rules

Ability to generate your worlds in any genre

Ability to place custom interactions to guide the DM

The app auto-generates images for items, places, etc

Franz can take a few loose ends and make up stuff on the fly

You can start out with a fifty-turn free trial (which is like fifty back and forth actions with you and the DM). After that it's subscription based.
https://www.fables.gg/

Towards the end of the year, they're going to offer a free tier, I think.
Anyway, I'm also one of the mods on their discord server. I hope you give the game a try and come by for a visit.

Here's a screen capture of a fun moment I had in the game where I told Franz, I wanted a little more descriptive gore in his descriptions and he responded...
Any hope we can move these over to Add Text?

Below is a log of my solo rpg adventures in a monster manual type of document. The campaigns evolved over about 2 years. The games used several rule sets including a few of my own design. The Characters are stated up using the latest design of my game rules. Which I will make available, at the same link, if people are interested.

I used many solo tools, preferring not to stick to one or a few. RPG solo was used frequently throughout all the campaigns.

Ithe game was intended to be a mostly comedy/parody/satire style superheros game, but the randomness of solo play ended up with a heavy amount of supernatural genre stuff as well. The game became almost fully supernatural setting for several adventures.

here is a link to the play log

In the Ironsworn solo game I play using RPGSolo, I'm always using the Roll Dice field to roll the same few configurations of dice and modifiers over and over. It's slightly annoying to have to retype the 2d6 plus different modifiers for her different moves and then retype the 2d10 for the challenge dice over and over. I'd love the ability to set define shortcut buttons which I can set up to roll stored dice configurations. When I click on it, it rolls the dice and modifiers defined.

I envision this as maybe ten buttons labeled
Roll 1, Roll 2, Roll 3, Roll 4, Roll 5, Roll 6 to the right of the normal Roll button. Maybe up to 10?
If we could rename the buttons, that'd be cool, but I understand if for space reasons that's not a good idea.
But maybe could at least define the tooltips for the buttons?

Another related enhancement could be history rolls where you could up arrow in the field and get to a stored history of previous roll and press Enter on the selected one it'd reroll those dice.

Anyway, just some thoughts for improvement. Thanks for the awesome set of solo rpg tools.
