archaic/biblical correctional system - showdown at the discothèque
#1
Hi! Guess who's back?! Big Grin

First part of a new game.

Solemn crook who is slightly weaker than you and whose motivation is to produce purity, support spirits, and relate atrocities; who speaks of scheming bewilderment and is focused on your last story.

Oh, UNE!!! ^_^

Excitement / Art.

Busily / Graceful.

The setting is archaic/biblical correctional system involving historical treaty and bizarre people. Your quest is to duel the charming low magic located at the dead restaurant. Trying to stop you is the dead demon skilled in criminology. You are currently at the firm docks. What is your yes/no question?

What am I doing at the docks here?

Punish / Technology.

Does that have to do with the correctional system?

(Very Likely | 8[d10]) Yes.

"An eye for an eye!"?

(Very Likely | 9[d10]) Yes.

Is this also against technology?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No.

So the punish technology is a machine that punishes?

(Somewhat Likely | 1[d10]) No, and...

I'm here to punish s.o./s.th.?

(Likely | 10[d10]) Yes, and... +Event: Cruelty / Intrigues

It's because it was cruel and scheming?

(Somewhat Likely | 9[d10]) Yes.

What is it though?

Foolishly / Small.

Heal / A project.

A project?

Judge / Anger.

Soi it's a small, judgemental healing device. Maybe a tooth removing drone or bot. I imagine it to be a little ball with some foolish A.I..

I throw it into the water.

*splunk*

*Eeep* *eep*

"An .. eye .. for ... an ... ey ..."

*bzz*

*bzz*

And it disappears beneath the waves.

That was easy. ^_^

I imagine it to be dark.

I'm unsure what to do and look out to the sea ...

Bestow.

Disruption.

Move away from goal.

I ignore those last few lines and try to make my way to the old diner that's long been closed to fight that magic using low life.

Are there any obstacles?

(50/50 | 8[d10]) Yes.

Haggle / Victory.

Happily / Heavy.

Steady smith.

Shrewd inquisitor who is as strong as you and whose motivation is to guard pride, possess the poor, and account harmony; who speaks of hostile accounts and is focused on your parents.

"Sir, your credit card apparently has been hacked! I am unable to let you in as you now don't have the money to be admitted here. This restaurant is only for the very wealthy!" Says the somewhat broken gorilly bot at the entrance to the once exclusive club.

Am I good at it?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 6[d10]) Yes, but...

A malus. It's hard to argue with the bot, maybe because it's broken. Also I'm mad at it because it said something very upsetting about my mother.

Int? High?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No. +Event: Activity / Fears

Okay, but it's usually higher. I just happen to be scared.
d6?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

12 = 2[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]+3[d6]

So how that bot? Rather good I suppose?

(50/50 | 5[d10]) No, but...

A bonus. Btw: How high was my malus? Was it high?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

1?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and...

Only this time.

So, how's that bot then? d4?

(50/50 | 6[d10]) Yes, but...

The Int'S rather high?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

So the Int's normal but it has another bonus.

d4?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d6?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

11 = 2[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+2[d4]+3[d6]

4 = 4[d7]

3 = 3[d7]

I use incite, he counters with obfuscate.

"Yo Momma!" "This is a picture of Chewbacca!" "Huh?!!"

Now his turn:

17 = 4[d6]+2[d4]+4[d4]+3[d4]+4[d4]

1 = 1[d7]

It uses "avoid the topic":

"So, how's the weather? What do you think?"

d8?

(Somewhat Likely | 1[d10]) No, and...

I have very high Int as it seems. More than a d10! o0 (That's more than the max for Humans!)

d12 then.

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

16 = 4[d12]+4[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]

7 = 7[d7]

I counter with rebuttal.

Now me again:

7 = 7[d7]

14 = 6[d12]+2[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+2[d4]

Another rebuttal. Of his

7 = 7[d7]

.. rebuttal ... (K, whatevs ...)

11 = 2[d6]+2[d4]+1[d4]+2[d4]+4[d4]

Him again:

15 = 4[d6]+2[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+4[d4]

7 = 7[d7]

1 = 1[d7]

Another rebuttal. I avoid the topic.

16 = 1[d12]+4[d4]+4[d4]+4[d4]+3[d4]

13 = 5[d12]+2[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]+1[d4]

2 = 2[d7]

I do make a point!

12 = 1[d6]+1[d4]+3[d4]+4[d4]+3[d4]

15 = 4[d6]+3[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]+4[d4]

7 = 7[d7]

7 = 7[d7]

16 = 7[d12]+3[d4]+1[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]

K, I clearly have the upper hand here. It let's me in. ^_^

I carefully make my way through the deserted discotheque when suddenly:

"Hahaa! It is I - the ruthless ..."

Historical artificial intelligence.

Oh, I forgot about the demon. No problem - that's him now.

What historical person is it modeled after?

Magical clergy.

K, a demonic version of some famous Paladin of old. Maybe even the society's saviour?

Sloppy prisoner.

Whistling/humming.

The electricity is humming. The lights start to flicker!

Pragmatic courtier who is as strong as you and whose motivation is to explain the government, undermine intelligence, and associate expertise; who speaks of prejudiced delight and is focused on your knowledge.

It tries to find out how much I know. Gleefully wallowing in it's own Hypocrisy it uses

Falconry.

A small flying drone. It darts at me from above:
(How good is it?)

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No.

(good? No.)

d4?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

15 = 3[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]

I decided I'm some kind of "earthbender" like in "Avatar".

1 = 1[d12]

I use "shift earth" to counter:

Am I good at it?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No. +Event: Ruin / Information

d4?

(50/50 | 6[d10]) Yes, but...

A bonus.

Will-p? High?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 8[d10]) Yes.

12 = 2[d4]+4[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]+1[d4]

I try to make a part of the ceiling stick out so it would "trip" over it but don't succeed.

Part of the ceiling comes down and I give away some important information.

Mistrust / Advice.

Aggressively / Glorious.

Bowyer/fletcher.

Now the A.I. makes some makeshift bow and shoots an "arrow" at me.

Is it good?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d4?

13 = 4[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]

(50/50 | 7[d10]) Yes.

8 = 1[d4]+1[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]

4 = 4[d12]

I try to ward it off with my bare hands but miss.

Geography.

I look at an interactive map of the premise that's without my knowing been manipulated by the A.I..

11 = 9[d12]+2[d12]

Is it very clever?

(Somewhat Likely | 2[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 1[d10]) No, and...

A malus - I see through it's trickery and decide not to trust the holomap.

Literacy.

Cunning ranger who is as strong as you and whose motivation is to process friends, abuse success, and steal old religions; who speaks of scheming turmoil and is focused on your campaign.

The A.I. now uses letters to talk to me.

Is it good?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

d10?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and... +Event: Agree / Expectations

*at it? It preys on my fears and uses them against me.

7 = 3[d4]+4[d4]

I'm startled.

Riding, airborne.

Another attack from above.

Good?

(50/50 | 1[d10]) No, and...

Malus. d4?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

Both?

(50/50 | 7[d10]) Yes.

12 = 1[d4]+2[d4]+4[d4]+4[d4]+1[d4]

10 = 2[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]+2[d4]

Big malus?

(50/50 | 6[d10]) Yes, but...

Only once. So it actually misses.

My turn:

13 = 4[d4]+3[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]

9 = 2[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]

6 = 6[d12]

I make part of the ceiling crumble and come down. It hits the attacker.
Am I there yet?

(50/50 | 5[d10]) No, but...

Something good happens.

NPC positive.

Communicate.

The low life talks to me over the intercom.

Lazy adept who is as strong as you and whose motivation is to defile friends, agonize animals, and abuse lust; who speaks of inquisitive alliance and is focused on your history.

They want to find out about me and know of my past.

What now?

Ambiguous event.

Abuse.

Tactics.

Cooking.

I make part of the ceiling crumble and come down. It hits the attacker.

Ambiguous event.

Abuse.

Cooking.

Can the charming low life convince me? Maybe he's offering me food? A dinner?

Is he good?

(Likely | 3[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No. +Event: Separate / Bureaucracy

Charisma? d5?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and...

A bonus.

10 = 1+5[d5]+1[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]

11 = 1[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]+3[d4]

High bonus?

(50/50 | 5[d10]) No, but...

it*s high enough. Separate bureaucracy?

Bladed weapons.

The A.I. interferes again - a bladed bot comes at me. Is it good?

(50/50 | 3[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 8[d10]) Yes.

Strength? High?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and...

A malus.

15 = 4[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+4[d4]

10 = 3[d4]+3[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]+1[d4]

High malus?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and...

Always. High enough?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

So it's lower than 6.

10 = 4[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]

Ouch, that kinda hurt!

My turn:

13 = 1[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]+2[d4]+4[d4]

14 = 2[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]

Malus big enough?

(50/50 | 3[d10]) No. +Event: Delay / A project

It actually has to be. (bigger than 1)

Abuse / Liberty.

Jovially / Amusing.

2 = 2[d12]

-10 = 4[d4]+1[d4]+2[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]-20

Str high?

(50/50 | 9[d10]) Yes.

d10?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d6?

(50/50 | 10[d10]) Yes, and...

both?

(50/50 | 7[d10]) Yes.

30 LPs left. I'm rather badly wounded and somewhat under shock. The sworded bot stops attacking me though.

I make my way to a bistro where the wizard is already waiting for me with dinner.

Naive commoner who is slightly weaker than you and whose motivation is to contact spirits, burden the forsaken, and collaborate pride; who speaks of prejudiced destruction and is focused on your last action.

Getting tired. More later.

The wizard tends to my wound and treats me to a nice dinner. (Hey, maybe I'm even a chick - who knows?)

I decide I'm an action-girl like chick in a hot leather suit. Also I bend earth.

11 = 2[d4]+3[d4]+2[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]

(12 = 6[d6]+2[d6]+4[d6]) Minor Injury: Largely superficial; painful and distracting, but not life threatening

It heals a minor injury but the wound is much deeper. Maybe a doctor should have a look at it when this is over ... Undecided

We sit and eat TEH NOMS, talk and it's all really pleasant and charming. But in the end there's a reason we're all here and the time has come for some grim business!

*dundundunnn*

Dex high?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 3[d10]) No.

Ouch.

And his? High?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 2[d10]) No. +Event: Starting / Legal matters

8 = 7[d10]+1

8 = 7[d10]+1

11 = 10[d10]+1

8 = 7[d10]+1

8 = 8[d12]

What's my martial arts? Is it high?

(50/50 | 4[d10]) No.

d4?

(50/50 | 1[d10]) No, and...

A malus.

9 = 1+1[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]

469 = 469[d920]

(Oh, apparently I deleted too much - I failed, he succeeded (11))

Apparently that wasn't good enough for such a powerful spell (an area affect dex boost)

My turn:

17 = 1[d4]+4[d4]+4[d4]+4[d4]+4[d4]

5 = 5[d7]

It's called granite fist, but I don't know what it does; I say it deals d4 damage.

1 = 1[d4]

That's five.

13 = 4[d4]+2[d4]+3[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]

682 = 682[d920]

13 - that's "good" - but not good enough. The spell would have needed an "excellent"

12 = 4[d4]+1[d4]+1[d4]+4[d4]+2[d4]

1 = 1[d7]

Decent - not good enough. I try to make him trip but don't succeed.

5 = 5[d7]

11 = 2[d4]+3[d4]+4[d4]+1[d4]+1[d4]

540 = 540[d920]

Wow, no way!!!

10 = 2[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]+1[d4]+3[d4]

6 = 6[d7]

3 = 3[d12]

Hey nialios,

I enjoy reading your stories but what system are you using with the dice? Like when you were arguing with the somewhat broken gorilly bot for awhile? And also after you say, "...the time has come for some grim business!" then there is a lot of dice rolling. I'm just curious. It seems interesting.

Hey! Thanks a lot!

I use a heavily houseruled version of "Unisystem" ("Buffy, AFMBE, etc.) as a rules set with some HERO System for e.g. magic and stuff from the internet like the Unisystem-Last Airbender maneuvers. Also I found a site that suggested using dice instead of fixed values for your skills and attributes in Uni-S.

I usually try to find out how skilled I am (or how high my attributes are) by asking Mythic as I go so I can skip pre-game character creation and start to play asap. Big Grin

For arguing with the bot I used a free supplement from "Burning Wheel" as "maneuvers" for a "duel of wits" (that's it's name Smile )
http://www.burningwheel.org/wiki/index.p...=Downloads

I also determine randomly what "spells" the wizard tries to use and what combat moves I use.

The spell list is also a free online resource and it's called "HERO" system grimoire or something like that (it's a netbook).. I always find it somewhat hard to find on the internet if I remember correctly.
